Yesterday a pandemic started, and next week it’s Christmas. Somewhere in between the most contentious election any of us remember happened. How weird is that? Christmas with Covid is lining up to be a somber season, in spite of a positive election. I thought about that because of the zoom meeting I just came from… Continue reading The Darkest-Hour-Before-Dawn Principle

Post-covid becomes present-climate change
After four years of crazy we finally come back to the moment of reality where we have to think about climate change again. If the Trump years were an attempt to hide from it we’re done with that. Covid is still with us, but hope is on the horizon. Huge gratitude to all the medical… Continue reading Post-covid becomes present-climate change
Gifts of inspiration for how to change our world
I hope you’re all thinking about a better future. It’s been a long four years, and there’s been lots of talk about what America’s vision for the post-Trump future could bring that’s better than what was before. I’d like to offer you an early Christmas gift that might be new — or maybe not. There… Continue reading Gifts of inspiration for how to change our world
Pandemic Gratitude
This is a tough thanksgiving for lots of us. The short and sweet video greetings from my grandchildren in Missouri was a very temporary high that reminded me of how little I’ve seen them this year. On Facebook my friends are making do with yummy food photos and tones of wistfulness that don’t begin to… Continue reading Pandemic Gratitude
The Bifurcatio that could have been worse
We could have turned the other way, but we managed to choose this road, and the turn makes a difference.
We still don’t know what’s down this road. We didn’t leave covid behind, the climate is still in collapse, the corporate state is still in charge, and the president’s followers are glumly trapped on the bus with us… and they might bring guns. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride. I hope you don’t worry that we picked the wrong road.
What Choose Democracy just did… thank you.
Your story’s better than mine, What can you share that needs to be remembered about this time? Right now, while the feelings are raw and the wounds still unhealed, write them down and share the memory for a future when we’ll need this learning again. Seriously. We’re not done yet.
A deep state that eats its faithful
The protesters look similar – except for the guns. They sound about as noisy. Their faces are all determined. They all have posters. One element may hold the key to which group wins or loses, and it’s not the guns. I keep wondering what’s in the mind of Republican voters when they faithfully follow directives… Continue reading A deep state that eats its faithful
Arkansas Post-Election: Who the heck are we?
The polls were looking good there for a while. Guess they still are nationally. But the Arkansas Poll came out yesterday and ruined my fantasy of a purple Arkansas moving toward progressive. Arkansas Poll 2020 report from KARK.COM News Arkansas Poll 2020 Summary Report https://www.kark.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/85/2020/10/2020-summary-report.pdf Here’s a quote that’s not surprising, but is still distressing:… Continue reading Arkansas Post-Election: Who the heck are we?
Writing the Mythology of Activism
The country is deep into this contentious election, and the Omni folks working on the Choose Democracy Project locally are hard at work plotting how to respond to the vivid possibility that our democracy might be collapsing around us. Watching an online training last night, led entirely by 20- and 30-something young people, brought back… Continue reading Writing the Mythology of Activism
Principles: Choose Democracy
These are the guidelines of our efforts, which we all commit to uphold. By committing to these principles, we ensure our efforts can be unified and disciplined, pushing towards a common goal while giving us the freedom to decide what is best for our own local groups: 1. We commit to defend the people’s… Continue reading Principles: Choose Democracy
