MayDay CK is Infrastructure for Justice

Omni Center, KPSQ FM Radio, and MayDay Community Kitchen are all having birthdays in May. Wow.

We are proud that Omni could be part of the mutual aid culture that blossomed as covid swept through our community last year. And Omni could only do it because Omni members and friends stepped up to help. Dozens of Omni folks show up to deliver food every day, and so many have donated food, supplies and money to keep them working that we’re not sure we can count everybody!

Mutual aid is what caring communities do in a pinch, and Fayetteville stepped up to the covid crisis with meals, food pantries, help groups on facebook and in neighborhoods, city services, and other stuff. We are a community who cares. MayDay has been doing it’s part, cooking 100 meals a day and sharing them out to people in need, including homeless folks at Safe Camp.

Thank you to 36 good Omni folks who’ve donated so far, to raise $1670!  Thank you, awesome people!  It takes a village to create a caring community. And actions like this are an important way for us all to lay solid building stones of care into our town.

There are still five days more for this fundraiser, where, with your help, Omni and KPSQ hope to raise enough money to keep MayDay Community Kitchen operating for a few months.  We’re applying for funding to make the work sustainable on a long-term basis and need this funding to tide the project over.

MayDay started in response to covid, but we’re seeing that covid is not a 100-mile marathon.  It’s more like a journey of a thousand miles that MayDay and so many other service groups started over a year ago, with one first step.  The vulnerable among us aren’t going away… there are troubles still approaching down the pike.  We need this kind of mutual aid infrastructure to be ready for what comes next… whatever it might be.

If you haven’t donated to the 3 Anniversaries Fundraiser yet, please join the Generous-Omni-Folks-Club by dropping your donation into the fundraiser link.  And remember that if you can’t donate right now, when you share the fundraiser with your circles, that helps just as much! Whatever you give will go a long way to making Fayetteville a more just, fair and welcoming community.  We just LOVE being proud of our town!

To you already-honored members of the Club, THANK YOU AGAIN for the warm kindness you keep on showing.  Your hearts are in the place of care that leads straight to peace on earth.
